QILAC has been working with language workers and projects around the state to compile Nyurrangu Ngardji a map of Queensland languages and their family groups.
Nyurrangu Ngardji means “Your country” in Warrgamay, the language of the region around Ingham. Listen here for the pronunciation:
The participants in the project have provided a great deal of information including the placement of many languages that had not previously been mapped.
Nyurrangu Ngardji has been compiled for educational purposes only. It includes teachers’ notes and short videos introducing some of Queensland’s Language Legends.
The map is a work in progress and details can be changed at any time in line with community needs. It is not to be relied upon in Native Title, or any other legal, proceedings.
